Newborn Screening Counseling
Early screening for Sickle Cell Disease and trait is critical, as it helps families understand the potential implications for their child’s health and future. By offering counseling, parents can make informed decisions, learn about
the genetic nature of the trait, and understand how it might affect their child or their family’s health down the line. It’s important to remember the sickle cell trait does not lead to the disease, but it can be passed on to future
generations. If both parents carry the trait, there is a possibility their child could inherit Sickle Cell Disease. Providing support and education through certified counselors is a valuable resource to help families manage this
information and plan for the future.
